These children live in the area called Iramiro Center, which is administered by nuns.  During that day, we played with the children and shared some sweets, biscuits, drinks, and fruits. How Robert Ndicunguye’s Visit Went

Image
It was on Saturday, May 5 th , 2018 where we visited Robert Ndicunguye, a disabled child who lives in Ndera Sector. The fact that this boy has the courage to pursue his studies stimulates everyone to have a great willingness to help the child gets any possible necessities. Therefore, on the date, mentioned above, Kepler Community, visited the boy. There are different items that this great community donated to the boy and his family in general. Such items include metallic clutch, notebooks, pens, clothes, sandals, foodstuffs, and hygienic materials. In addition to that, Robert’s stepmother was handed 24,000 Rwf for her project of selling sorghum beer in the neighborhood. The entire family (Robert’s) was so thankful to Kepler community and other people who played a great part to help Robert and his family.  Big thanks to Emma Northcott, Smile Club Kepler, and Nakitha.  The pictures below were taken when we visited Robert. ...

How can we help the poor? Who should be in charge?

Image
Figure 1: The picture showing many hands to depict who should give. Photo by Netivist No one in the entire world has everything they need in life. Everyone has got at least one thing they lack for their own good use. For example, I don’t have a soccer ball and I wish I had it because I like to play soccer. Now, consider someone else who does not have even one piece of bread for a day; the person who walks barefooted  because he/she does not have shoes; the person who does not have health insurance and when he/she falls sick, she is in  a very difficult situation. Just take few seconds and think about that person who does not have some basic needs to survive. People who need our help are always there because we live with them; we always see them in the morning when they are desperate and in the evening when they struggle to find places to sleep from. We always see them on the street begging daily bread. There are different ways we can use in order to ...

What pushes us to help others?

Every human being struggles to have something; to own something. What we own determine whether we live well or not; what we have make us face particular challenges. Isn’t that right? For example, if one has a car, they are less likely to reach to the workplace late. On the other hand, the people who do not have are likely to arrive to the workplace late. Moreover, the people who have jobs are less likely to suffer from the hunger while those who are jobless mostly suffer from the hunger. Having said all the above, I think that the world is composed of the haves and have-nots; the people who own particular things and others who do not have some of the things. It becomes a huge problem when there is someone who has almost nothing to help him/her to survive. In this case, that person usually has no basic needs to enable him/her survive.  This brings the idea of supporting some people who do not have some basic needs to survive. When there is someone who needs a help, most of us reali...

Giving Quotes

Give, give something, give anything, always remember to give! There are different giving quotes that everyone should read in order to understand the importance of giving. I believe that everyone lives because other people live as well. So, it would sound realistic to say that it would everyone should ensure the happiness of his/her neighbor. The following are top 15 most inspiring quotes about giving , and after reading them, or just some of them, I bet that you will immediately feel like giving. 1. “No one has ever become poor by giving.” ― Anne Frank Usually, there is no person that becomes poor because s/he has given something to someone else. In most cases, we give what is extra to what we earn or just a small portion of what we earn. Therefore, it is not possible that a person can give everything s/he has and remains poor. After giving, there is something that remains, and the giver or donor relies on the remaining items to survive.  2. “Remember that  the happie...

How I Knew Robert Ndicunguye

Image
In March 2017, there is this black man who came to Palace, a group house that was located at Kwa Nayinzira. The man was carrying a bag and a phone in his hands. He said that he was coming to visit Daniel and use his computer. He also said that he was coming to see few other people at Palace. I don’t recall the name of the man because it has been a while since the man visited Palace. That man was wearing a white Polo shirt and blue jeans. Also, he wore these black, leather sandals which made some noise as the man took steps. He looked happy as he had found what he was looking for, Daniel, his friend as well as the computer to use. That man had a perfect size and was relatively tall. After encountering that man, I had to interact friendly with him as I was the Assistant Resident Advisor. Sitting on his bed, Daniel was looking at the pictures in the gallery of the man’s phone and found this disabled child, a boy walking with a wooden clutch and carrying a jerry can on his head. In re...

What Do We Do for Robert Ndicunguye?

Image
People are just good! There are these people who believe that all people deserve happiness; people who believe that everyone must have a good life. There is this amazing community of Kepler which made me realize that it should always be the responsibility of everyone to help. Keplerians, both students and Course Facilitators from Kepler, have been very generous to help Robert Ndicunguye. Every time I announced that we are visiting Robert Ndicunguye on a particular day, everyone put the thumb up to join. Some Keplerians did contribute some money to buy different materials for Robert while others paid him visits. However, there are people who contributed the money and still visited Robert. This made me realize that Keplerians care. They really care! Photo by Alain Mutabazi: Keplerians, Robert's mom and dad (in the middle above), and Robert's two sisters, Robert down with his clutch. Here, I will be using “we” instead of “I” because Kepler community and I have been helpi...
